Personal Review
The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks takes place in North Carolina near Winston- Salem. Ira Levinson is a 90 year old man stuck in his car after it flew off the road and rolled down an embankment. He is seeing visions of his dead wife and reliving the ups and downs of their marriage while struggling to stay alive. A few miles away Sophie Danko and Luke Collins are falling in love. Luke works on a family ranch with his mom and competes in bull riding competitions. Sophia is attending Wake Forest University majoring in art history. Everything seems perfect except for the big secret Luke is keeping from her that may just tear them apart. The two couples have nothing in common but will come together in an unexpected way to teach a lesson about love, life, and sacrifice.
The Longest Ride is about adventure, love, friendships, and discovering your true self. It's a fairly easy read; only 398 pages. If you are a Nicholas Sparks fan and have enjoyed his other books, this is a good choice for you. The story takes place in the same state as do all of his other books. The Longest Ride was very suspenseful and kept me reading. One thing I didn't particularly like was the fact that the chapters skipped to a different story completely sometimes. Some chapters were about Sophia and Luke while others were about Ira and Ruth. On the other hand separating the chapters this way added a new element of suspense to the story because you wanted to keep reading through the chapters to find out what happened. The book appealed to me in an emotional way because I could feel for all the characters and understand where they were coming from. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read, especially directed to teenage girls and women. There is a lot to learn from this book and I know it will inspire you as it did to me.
